Last week I (Mary) had the pleasure of spending some time in our beautiful Upper Peninsula. My friends, Meghan and Robert run the Kipling Bed and Breakfast in Gladstone, Michigan. I have known Meghan since Mr. Herman’s sixth grade science class. It is funny how quickly time passes. Meghan and Robert are proud parents of one energetic two year old named Bobby. (or as you know him: ” yooper baby”)  Unfortunately, I do not have any nieces or nephews… (hint hint Molly). Meghan is much like a sister to me, therefore I consider Bobby a nephew. Each time I see this little man his personality becomes a bit more complex. He has a scowl that ends with a smile that seems to be just for me. This time he had learned my name in full. In true Liggett family fashion, he would call out “Mereemuren, r u?” (Translated: “Mary Merwin, where are you?”)  I loved how he would try to help me down the stairs by grabbing my leg. How he carried his favorite toy, a plastic shovel, with him where ever he went. He is growing up too fast….
